Haitian Children’s Ministry’s vision is; to Share the story and inspire God’s people to help the children of Haiti. On June 23-24 in Ocean Grove, NJ, we did just that.
HCM had a booth at Bridgefest, that was held that weekend. The festival started off with messages by the Bridge radio station (FM 89.7) personalities and ended with a live concert by the Newsboys. There were a hundred booths with different ministries, Christian help groups and Christian vendors all there to share about the amazing things that are being done, all over the world, in the name of Jesus.
God showed up too! On Friday, there was a threat of a storm that never came. Saturday as we set up in the rain, the weather man was calling for a miserable day. It cleared up instantly, and we had a beautiful day. God blessed this unique opportunity for His servants to share His heart
We had hundreds of visitors at our booth. It was exciting to see so many people who share our hearts for Haiti. They were sharing their stories of going to Haiti, telling us about some their experiences and what keeps them going back. A young girl had been there several times and said she was in love and showed us her tattoo of Haiti! There were a lot of people who were from Haiti and want to help Haiti. There was even a grandmother of a 3 year old boy whose dad is Haitian. On our visitor’s registration form, there was a question about being interested in going on a mission trip to Haiti. This woman said, I’ve never had an interest in going before right now. She said she wants to go and see her grandson’s ancestry and help his people. As matter of fact, of the 100 people we added to our mailing list, 90% said they are interested in going to Haiti on our next trip, March 3-10, 2018.
We met a beautiful Haitian woman who is a nurse here and wants to go back home to Haiti on a trip and heal her people. Her sister who left Haiti as a baby, wants to see her homeland. They both speak fluent Haitian creole and are very excited to go home. There was another amazing young woman who left Haiti as a child and wants DESPERATELY to return to help. She came by the booth several times, each time more excited than the first. She turned to her boyfriend and jumped up and down, crying, “I’m going to Haiti in March, I’m finally going back to Haiti!”
A family came up to the booth and was looking at the jewelry and art. They had a son about 4 years old. We were talking about the children, all they don’t have and how precious they are, he walked over to a bag and came back. He handed us $2 and said he wanted them to have it. The extravagance of love and selflessness of that simple act overwhelmed us. His sweet face, with a look on it that only comes from helping others, is something we won’t soon forget.
It was a soul refreshing time; a restoration of hope in this world. There were organizations there, that help street children in India, sex-trafficked young girls in Thailand, widows in Africa and an organization that works with orphaned children in Haiti. We live in a time that Paul describes in
2 Timothy 3:2; For men will be lovers of self, lovers of money, boastful, arrogant, revilers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy.
It was exhilarating to see so many of God’s people living out His purpose for their life.
God has given HCM a purpose, a calling on our lives personally and to live it out through this ministry. We are so grateful for this amazing gift and how He will lead us in service to Him and to the beautiful people of Haiti. For in him we live, and move, and have our being; as certain even of your own poets have said, For we are also his offspring. Acts 17:28
