The Mission of the Haitian Children’s Ministry is to share the story and inspire God’s people to provide hope for the children of Haiti.
The Haitian Children’s Ministry (HCM) began as a ministry of the Lutheran Church of Good Shepherd in Old Bridge, NJ. In the summer of 2014, 28 families began sponsoring 28 children of Timoun se Espwa Demen Orphanage (TSED). A few months later in January 2015, 18 individuals from 4 churches in two different states participated in a mission trip to Haiti. The sponsorship program also expanded beyond 50 children. Through the sponsorship program, HCM was able to provide food, schooling, and shelter for the children of TSED. In the Spring of 2016, the Haitian Children’s Ministry became 501(c)3 organization.
One of the things we quickly came to realize is that this work is bigger than us. We had much to learn about working in Haiti. So HCM became a partner of the Haiti One Network to partner together with other organizations working in Haiti. This partnership opened up many doors of opportunity and brought new resources into the mix. It enabled us to provide better help to the children we serve.
March 2017 marked a new chapter in the life of the Haitian Children’s Ministry. We ended our 2-year partnership with Timoun se Espwa Demen Orphanage. Instead of focusing on the ongoing sponsorship program, HCM began focusing on more immediate mission tasks and needs. On June 3, 2017 we are preparing to package 20,000+ meals for the children of Haiti through a partnership with Numana and Mission of Hope, Haiti. We anticipate future efforts related to education and will be offering opportunities for future mission trips.
If you are a leader in your church and would like to learn more about how your church could get started with God’s work in Haiti, we would love to hear from you.
